Eve’s Necklace

Eve’s Necklace (scientifically known as Sophora affinis) is a small deciduous tree native to North America, primarily found in parts of Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico. The tree is known for its beautiful, pendulous clusters of white to creamy yellow flowers, which resemble a necklace of pearls — hence the name “Eve’s Necklace.”

  • Size: Typically grows to around 15–20 feet (4.5–6 meters) in height and width, but can reach up to 30 feet (9 meters) in optimal conditions.

Cultivation

  • Planting: Best planted in well-drained soil with adequate sunlight. Ensure a site with room for growth, as this tree can spread widely.
  • Maintenance: Very low maintenance once established. Prune occasionally to maintain its shape.
  • Pests/Diseases: Generally resistant to many common pests and diseases, though it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils.
